When Should You See a Dentist?

← Back to the blog

Many people only visit the dentist once they feel pain or notice an obvious problem. Dental issues, however, often begin developing much earlier — and in the early stages they can be completely symptom-free.

That is why regular dental check-ups are so important: they help catch problems early, when they are easiest to treat.

Which symptoms should you watch out for?

Certain signs are a clear indication that you should see a dentist as soon as possible. If you notice any of them, it is not worth putting off an examination.

The most common warning signs are:

  • persistent toothache
  • sensitivity to hot or cold
  • bleeding gums
  • discoloured teeth
  • loose teeth

These symptoms often point to an underlying dental problem that may need professional treatment.

Why does early treatment matter?

Treating dental problems early is usually simpler, quicker and more cost-effective. The sooner treatment takes place, the better the chances of avoiding more serious procedures.

A small cavity, for example, can easily be treated with a filling — but if it is left untreated for too long, it can eventually lead to root canal treatment or even tooth extraction.
